Hi,

I would say the answer is yes, 24-Seven is a progressive Adventist church. The only hesitation I have in saying this is that it could be perceived as an insinuation that other Adventist churches are not progressive. I would say that the way we’re designed to impact lives seems to appeal to many who don’t connect as well to more traditional styled churches. Many who have said or felt, “I love God but not organized religion,” have found 24-Seven to be what they have been searching for.

Thanks for the question & God bless!

Pastor,

When one is baptized and becomes a member of your church, do you require an oath or vebal agreement of all the 27 beliefs?

Thanks,

The Adventist baptismal form only has thirteen questions and does not cover all the 28 fundamental beliefs. I believe we should share with people before they are baptized what we believe. How else will they, “...count the costs”? I also believe that baptism is the point of justification, not sanctification. To ask a person to be mature at the same time they’re a spiritual baby makes no sense.

God bless!

I would say it is progressive. We are accepting the challenge that is bringing more contemporary sounding music into the worship service. The music keeps God at the focus of our attention. While this is observed to be a potential issue, we have a pastor (Nick Snell) who is dedicated just to intentionally do just that...to keep God the focus of his worship.

We are marching into the growth of small group focus (We will be known for our praying and study of the Bible and fellowship) Reading the book of Acts gives us our blueprint for the church body. We know that it is important for adventist churches to all work as one organization. As the church becomes more mission minded than ever before and our characters are perfected by God (Our = Every person alive when God comes AND who goes to heaven) that we will see this trans-congregational cooperation occurring in more and more open ways toward the last days (occasionally to the chagrin of their jealous pastors).

If 24-seven is progressive it is only in that many of our members of the congregation are ready for this trans-congregational cooperation now. And I believe that our pastors are open to this as well.

Update…

SO as our many prayer teams, and many small groups, our growing campuses all are still babies in a way. We have another thing that could possibly place us into a possible “progressive” category. We are having Bible Study Training and beginning to toy with the idea of lay pastors. This does not make us as progressive as the wonderful churches in Africa. Also, ANY church that is striving to alter their 10/90 activity ratio, I would call progressive. What does all this mean?...Let me describe MY personal idea of a real progressive church.

A pastor is valuable. I mentioned African churches. Their pastors often lead five to 15 churches some as many as 20...HOW? Well lay pastors are mentored by the pastor who travels between churches sometimes two or three a Sabbath. while he is away they write and give sermons, and lots of people know how to give BibleStudies. His job is different than a normal American pastor because...the members do a lot more work, they lead more, they try harder, and all that is left for the pastor to do, is write sermons, give them, mentor and train lay pastors, and sometimes baptize. He leads more from a vision driven standpoint, maintaining locations and administrating. He does not initiate or vote about a prayer group, or when pathfinder sabbath is, he does not suggest canned food drives. He does not have time, or need to ask if the rafting trip has a leader, or if our next primary instructors are lined up. He does not even worry about song service. It is always about kissing Jesus’ toes, crying out adoration to the Creator anyway.

It seems like churches are a lot better equipped to fight over members than bring in new believers.

Satan and the rest of the unwise angels are hard at work. I believe that a progressive church will help its members to see spiritual battle for what it is.

If you observe any of the following in your church, then you have discovered a new prayer request! (these are negatives)

1. You need permission to start a prayer group.
2. You don’t know anyone from the church who would pick you up in the middle of the night from anywhere.
3. There has ever been scornful looks cast
4. There has never been minorities represented in your congregation
5. The pastor is the only one to give bible studies to those wanting Baptism
6. Most members don’t know what “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is.
7. You don’t hear a lot of Bible texts in the sermons
8. Most members can’t quickly articulate the “Gospel” or the “Plan of Salvation”
9. You have a dwindling number of young people.
10. If you are not willing to do anything about any of these problems (pastors EXCLUDED)

When I say at the beginning “If...Then you have a prayer request” I mean now write your thoughts down about spiritual revival in your church...find one other person...and pray together about it.

May God bless the one who carries these concerns to the congregations for more prayer.
