A pastor came to our Academy and did a worship for us, and he brought up a point that I find very true, and something a lot should hear.
It was about the 10 commandments and of course there always is the question about “Ah man, I don’t want be a Christians because your rules (10 commandments are too hard) and besides, you guys don’t even keep them”
I think its sad how people think that they have to follow the 10 commandments to be saved. When you don’t, and yet they fail to choose Christ because they are pressured that they have to be good all the time. And even when we’re saved, we screw up, and that’s when the grace again kicks in. The beginning of Ephesians 2, it talks about how we were all in sin, then verse 8 comes along and states but we were saved by grace. Ephesians 2:8-10. It says “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Verse 9 already says that we cannot be saved by our works, so by just following the 10 commandments, or just being a good person won’t put us in heaven. But We have been saved by grace, so we’ve been saved. Then again, that doesn’t mean we can go back to do whatever. Verse ten is like, we’re his making, and he has set out a road of good works for us to follow, and to help us guide those in the good works, are the 10 commandments.
Bottom line: The 10 commandments are not for you to be saved by, but to follow once you are saved. Encourage people that all they need to do is love and accept Christ, and as you love Christ, you will follow His commands. For when you love, you obey.
(Sometimes thoughts like this of mine tend to come out jumbled, and different ideas come out at differet times, so please work with the arrangement of my posts. Plus, leave anything you’d like to say. I’d love to hear it. =] )
