SAU Encounters Weekend - Spirit vs. Flesh

imageToday marks day two of the Encounters Weekend here at Southern Adventist U.  It has been such a blessing being able to connect with some of the students on this campus and listen to the vision that God has placed on their hearts.

Tonight the message is called “Who’s Ya Daddy?” based on Romans 8.  This chapter really spells out clearly the entire battle between the flesh and the spirit.  Ultimately I believe that God wants us to be filled with the Spirit and is so doing have our flesh crucified (Galatians 2:20), but how many of us as followers of Jesus still struggle with the flesh?  There is great news found in this powerful chapter (Romans 8).

If you are unable to make it in person tonight you can check the vespers service out live starting at 8pm ECT.  Just CLICK HERE

Blessings and Happy Preparation Day!

Pastor Matthew,
I just wanted to give you props for being real and delivering a solid message that I can identify with.  Thank you for having the courage to speak the truth even when it isn’t popular.  I can’t tell you how tired I am of hearing legalistic messages about what I should and shouldn’t be doing, with little or no emphasis on how important a loving relationship with God is.  Your message was refreshing and uplifting.  It is nice to feel “fed” for once, instead of beaten up.  Thank you for the reminder of what is really truly important.  God is working through you.  Keep up the good work and God bless!

I just wanted to say that your allusion to the father and dirty baby boy was very powerful and absolutely perfect to explain and show the love of God for us! Thank you so much!

I really really enjoyed you talks from Thursday through Saturday.  I am still a strong believer in Christ and have a relationship with him, but haven’t been to church in a little while...your sermons refreshed me, as I had gotten tired of the same old “Here’s why the seventh day is correct and everyone else is going to hell” sermons.  You were honest and real, and I feel like seventh-day adventism lacks that tremendously.  It’s really great of you to travel across the country to share a real God with Southern.

I’ve heard on numerous occasions that many people feel as if they are too “bad” for God and that the standards are just too high and your sermon addressed the to a tee.  (Is that how you would spell it??!!)

On a side note, not that I get distracted.......... but I could completely identify with your ADHD as I am exactly the same way, so i followed along without getting too distracted.

Thanks again and I hope you will visit Southern again sometime soon.  =-)

Greetings Julie, Irishlass (?), and Julie Jewels!

Thank you all for taking the time to post on the blog.  On a personal note it was a blessing and honor to be at Southern this past weekend.  My constant prayer is that Jesus was lifted up in such a way that people could relate.

It is evident by the emails that I am getting that the Holy Spirit was convicting both of sin and of Jesus’ love for the sinner.  It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit continues to pour out on that campus!

Blessings,

mwg
